What are 3 words that describe how you do your job?

Curiosity – seeking to understand the people and culture of the firm and what factors contribute to its success and its challenges; Focus – identify and stay centered on what is really important; and Integrity – recognize truth, be realistic, lean into hard conversations.

What excites you most about the wealthtech industry right now?

Recently I realized that over my 40-year career there are times when the focus in our industry seems to be the “same old, same old” but with updated buzzwords. Then something new and really impactful emerges and there are real opportunities to move a firm forward using technology. Today I’m excited that the price point for impactful technology has reached a level that is within reach of smaller wealth management firms, particularly those that are growing. Real opportunities exist with tools to help advisors proactively deliver personalized service – this is where we should be investing to improve the client experience.

Who or what inspires you in your job?

I’m most inspired by the courage I see among clients who are not afraid to compete head-to-head against larger and better-resourced firms. Those who are constantly questioning conventional wisdom and not assuming they know everything about what clients want and need from them as advisors.
